According to the official news release, the new stores will open in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane.
In the announcement, the retailer said pet stores were an important part of its pet-friendly lifestyle and it would work with the Australian Pet Council to provide a variety of pet products and accessories for pet owners.
“We’re excited to be bringing our pet store experience to Australia and hope you will too,” said Walmart spokesperson Anna Larkin in the release.
“We know the importance of having pet-safe products available for your pets to enjoy.”
Walmart said the new pet stores would be located at a number of locations in Melbourne and Sydney.
A spokesperson for Petland, the pet store chain, said the pet stores had been planned for some time.
“Petland is pleased to announce the Petland Petstore in Melbourne will be open in October 2019,” said Petland spokeswoman Heather Smith in a statement.
“This will be a first for Petstore, and we’re thrilled to partner with Walmart on this exciting new store.”
It will be great to see the Petstore at Walmart in Sydney, which has become a local icon for pet lovers.
“Walton and Petland have been in partnership for more than 25 years.
Petland has been expanding its pet stores and the company is also looking to expand its pet food range.
Petfood, which is sold in supermarkets across the country, will be available in Walmart pet stores as well.”
Our commitment to providing quality pet food is strong, and Petstore’s new pet food line is the best in the industry,” Walmart spokeswoman Smith said.
